Netizens ask Marián Aguilera and Oscar Abad

Translated from: www.elpais.com
Netizens ask Marián Aguilera and Oscar Abad

This is an old interview with Marián Aguilera and Oscar Abad where they receive questions online and respond to them. It was for the promotion of the film "El Prado de las Estrellas".

1. 09/01/2008 - 17:36h.
PEPITO GRILLO

Marián, the years go by, you and Mirian like when you were still in Al salir de Clase. Keep it up. What do you prefer, TV or cinema ?

I prefer film, provided it is well. There are many movies that are worse than a lot of TV. There are many things to learn on TV, for example. I am now very happy.

2. 09/01/2008 - 17:38h.

I wonder what you two young actors as the controversial digital canon reviewers. Do you really think it is only the solution for the survival of the Spanish culture?

Well, I do not think that's the solution. I think you need to take action, but hey, as I said a levy on digital devices do not see it as the solution to all the ills of the culture that you speak.

How did you do to get his head in the world of cinema? The eternal question an applicant who fails to get his head ...

Do not lose hope. Each case is different. Oscar is a rare case, it happens, but usually in this work it is expected. We know many people who spent years and years doing auditions and have had no luck, and a lot people are great doing their job.

Hello! Oscar, are you going to make any movie more? Is there any actor you really like? But not seedy, but great, are there any that inspire you?

Well it has been a beautiful experience , yes I would like to repeat in some more film, to see what lies ahead! Regarding the actors, I can say I really like how Geoge Clooney works.

5. 09/01/2008 - 17:51h.

Is it true that you have to do TV shows and movies to eat to carve out a future caree?

No one can always choose: I like work. I'm an actress and I do not want to spend my life at home waiting. I like TV and I prefer to have to be waiting for the awesome movie or those which I may or may not get. That seems absurd to me. I feel so frustrated and I'm not. And of course, you also have to make a living.

6. 09/01/2008 - 17:52h.

To Oscar : do you expect this nomination for Goya?

Not at all expecting to be nominated. Doing the movie with such great people was a tremendous surprise and joy, and the Goya has already been a kick of dream come true.

7. 09/01/2008 - 17:56h.

Marián, I saw you naked in "La ciudad de los prodigios" directed by Mario Camus. Today, would you go back to shoot a scene on the path you already have taken? Thanks.

It depends on the film and that is the naked scene. I would not if the same can be explained while being dressed, for example. Haha .. But in some cases we are not free and rich.

8. 09/01/2008 - 17:59h.diego

Hi, guys. Congratulations to both! Would you have contacted a foreign producer? Lately our actors are in great demand in Europe and the U.S. Good luck.

Well, I certainly did not call  producer or foreign or domestic, Marian I do not know, but I certainly do not hehe. It is true that working abroad has to be an amazing experience. I have a foreign producer called "El prado de las estrellas" ... Thanks

It's nice to see young players with such talent! All the best to both. As a question, an easy : What movie you would recommend us? In addition to El Prado ... of course ...

Marián: I have seen Lust Caution, which is cool. Also Cuentos de Terramar. The latter is nice, too.
Oscar: Well I have not seen a lot of films lately, with the coaches and studies I have not much time, but I've seen a movie recently and I really liked is the Caso Slevin, a story that hooked me from the first moment.

10. 09/01/2008 - 18:03h.
Patricia, la de las Munich ;-)

Marián Hello ! Congratulations on yesterday's episode and the audience so good that you have had. What has been the scene has cost you roll in this movie? Do you have a story of the shooting?

Thank you. The scenes that I shot at the beginning, which were the residence. And it was because he did not know what Mario wanted.

11 09/01/2008 - . 18:07 h .

Do you think that in Spain manage to make a cinema ( removing the author ) that lead people to the movies, not so punctual as El Orfanato?

I do not know. And yes, people often go to see blockbuster movies and no risk at all to get into the rooms. Yes we should promote movies that, while not sounding obliging people to see .. And there are some of those. I do not know if I will survive cinema, I hope so. Hopefully.

12. 09/01/2008 - 18:10h.
Patricia

This question is for Oscar ... Was there a casting choice for your role? Was it hard? Do you already know the director? Or how you got the opportunity? ( I know there are many questions, but I'm curious to see how you started in this world ;) Good luck ;)

Well, Mario Camus decided that the best for the role was to select a cyclist and teach acting, and through Antonio Gonzalez Linares I got in touch with the teams in the area to find cyclists, and several of my team went and made an impression but in the end  I was selected. It was a little chance, something that looked far, the privileged few, but in the end look where 's all over! Thank you very much, Patricia !
13. 09/01/2008 - 18:13h.
Jotez

Hi Marian! Do you still remember your role in Al salir de clase series created by Antonio Cuadri. How have you evolved as an actress? I particularly love how you do Los Hombres de Paco and I hope to see you soon in el Prado. Regards, J

When I started in Al salir de clase I was very young and had not quite taken the decision to be an actress. Now that I 'm a big girl, heh, heh, then try to improve, learn everything. I hope you like the movie. If you liked the tracks, you'll love this. Kisses!

14. 09/01/2008 - 18:20h.
Shaky

Hello chic@s.  I go to the movies every Friday and I am one who likes to see Spanish film despite  movie reviews. Tell me, why should I go see it this Friday? What is the best that I can find?

Oscar: Well, why you should go see it, and why not ? For my personal opinion, is a story for everyone: if you want love, there are love stories, if you want drama, there are stories of drama, you're there with the action cycling, addresses many issues for everyone.
Marian: Hi Shaky . Since you're going to the movies every Friday, do not miss el Prado  ... Oscar goes naked! ! ! ! ! HA! Just kidding. Half naked. It is a beautiful film about everyday things counted in a simple way. Characters who act and solve problems. Townspeople decision maker ... Love and young people struggling to get dreams.. Life itself. Go see it.

15. 09/01/2008 - 18:26h.
Enrique

Congratulations to both of you for your work! What do you think can aid the Spanish cinema? Do you really think that is how you will save the industry? Why does it cost so much for people to see our movies?

That's very complicated issue. Is not known. Many people choose an evening at the theater to see shots and stuff. It's an education problem, no? People do not want to think or put them a mirror, because then you force them to be ... Oh ! I guess .. Well, as you already said Marián is a very complicated issue, I do not think the Spanish cinema is dead at all, but hey, it's true that people are more wary when entering a Spanish film. I do not know if for some reason or another, but it costs more. I hope that eventually equates to cinema of other countries.

16. 09/01/2008 - 18:28h.

Congratulations on the movie! Already do you have more projects? Marian, will you have more screen time in this season of "Los hombres de Paco"? Thank you!

I have some .. In the series I will be more or less as usual .. Sometimes more plot, others less. Thank you. Kisses!

How was the experience of working with Mario Camus? I guess you will have learned a lot ...

Yes you learn a lot from a director like Mario Camus. It has been a very rewarding experience. Starting in the world of cinema with a genius like him, is awesome, go figure.

Marian Aguilera: "Hollywood does not go through my head" (2008)

Origin: Entrevista Marian Aguilera: "Hollywood no pasa por mi cabeza" (2008)

Interview for the movie El prado de las estrellas.

El Prado de las Estrellas is her last movie in which she stars with Rodolfo Sancho, who was her brother in Al Salir de Clase.

She is part of the large pool that was forged in the series Al salir de clase. Colleagues like Pilar López de Ayala, Elsa Pataky or Hugo Silva have shown, both inside and outside our borders, that young Spanish actors are in, and Marian Aguilera is not far behind.

The redhead par excellence of the Spanish cinema is slowly reaping the fruits of years of work. For several years, she is part of the successful cast of Los hombres de Paco. Meanwhile, Marian loves to enjoy big-screen roles, such as Luisa in El prado de las estrellas.

This time the Catalan claims to have especially enjoyed being under the direction of the legendary Mario Camus. Furthermore, she has met again old colleagues such as Rodolfo Sancho, who was her brother in Al Salir de Clase and with whom has rekindled, thanks to the film, a beautiful friendship.

- Marian, this is the second time that you put yourself under the command of Mario Camus...
Yes, the truth is that it was great to be part of his team, but the last time there were very few days and I couldn't enjoy it much. At that time I could not know Mario in the same way that I have known him now, with more time.

- How was the shooting?
(Smiles) When I was shooting I didn't have the feeling of making a movie, like in other occasions, and that was wonderful. That has made everything much easier; it is what I liked the most.

- You're the only girl in the cast. How did you feel?
Sometimes they want to take you by the arm and other times they laugh at you, in the best sense. I felt very comfortable, very sheltered... Like a queen! It was a real pleasure.

- How is Luisa, your character?
She's the typical girl who pursues a dream, who is not very happy with her life and is doing something to improve. She wants to learn, to get going and does not want to stay locked in the village.

- You are also from a village in Barcelona. Did the same thing which happened to her, happened to you?
Yes, absolutely. I also had it as clear as she had but I didn't have so many obstacles because my village is very close to Barcelona. I went back and forth every day because I was studying in Barcelona, and it was easier to achieve my dreams.

- And in personality, do you resemble her?
Very much. We're both very stubborn, with things very clear in our minds. So clear that sometimes I get things wrong because I think that people around me are sending me negative messages, I always interpret like they are trying to manipulate me.

- At this point, you are succeeding in film and on the small screen. Do you stop to think about your beginnings?
Yes, what happens is that I have assumed that in this world, you have a day like this, and at the same time, there are other days who are less fortunate... I try not to celebrate too much.

- In addition to match the second time with the director, [you are matched again with] Rodolfo Sancho, with whom you started your career in Al salir de clase.
(Smiling) Yes, we hadn't work [together] again and it has been great. We had a very good relationship because we were “siblings” back then, and this time we have a relationship without passion, and that previous experience helped us a lot.

- Hadn't you seen each other since then?
Yes, but only at certain times. While filming the movie we had time to talk a lot and catch up. We had some conversations at the hotel where we have come to confide in each other. We met for dinner, we had stories, and gradually it became like the sibling relationship we had in Al salir de clase.

- And do you stay in touch with other co-stars of Al salir de clase?
Yes, almost all of us are in Madrid and we meet in many places; if not at a dinner, it's at a premiere. I do not maintain contact with all but with almost everyone.

- The majority of that group have formed what is known as the pool of actors of  the Spanish cinema...
It’s because back then there were not many young people series, so it is normal that they have drawn from us. It was a very good school.

- Does Hollywood go through your head?
I never think about it. I don’t see myself there nor I plan that. Sometimes it is very difficult to maintain the work here, even more to plan it there. I do not ever think about it.

- You are immersed in television, with Los Hombres de Paco, and in movies. Are you not planning to do theater?
I love theater, but it is hard to do it right now. Television is easier to do. Cinema and theater should be made in a more quiet and thoughtful manner. They are two things that are very hard and need to be thought of and take a chance to do beautiful things, that are worth it.

- They say you're a shy girl.
I may on occasion have said it myself, but I think that's not the word that defines me exactly, but it would be fairer to say that I am reserved.

- How do you define yourself?
Calm and introverted I would say.

- You have also stated that it takes a lot for you to get angry...
I get angry more and more (laughs). But if I get upset it is because I see injustices.

- What makes you nervous?
I get nervous depending on the day, how I feel. I am very irregular. One day I get very nervous at a press conference but in another, the next day, which is more important and with more people, I don’t. In this sense I still do not know me (laughs).

- Do you have a project coming up?
No. I'm still with Los Hombres de Paco. I have a movie premiere, where I make a tiny but very nice appearance, but I still do not know the release date.

- Any perspectives for 2008 that has just begun?
I don’t know (smile). It has just started and we'll see as it progresses.

- Marian, a dream to fulfill?
Many. Above all, to be a better person and have a good relationship with the people around me; being a righteous person.

Marian Aguilera: "Me too, I left home soon" (2008)

Interview from: servicios.laverdad.es and lavozdigital.es. Also found here.

TEXT: FERNANDO BELZUNCE

Seven years after 'La ciudad de los prodigios', the television actress Marian Aguilera is back to work with Mario Camus' 'El prado de las estrellas'. A discrete film in which her red hair stands out and her character is melancholic.

- Looks like Mario Camus remembered you ...

- In 'La ciudad de los prodigios' there was very little of me, maybe three days. But he remembered. And I'm glad.

- Sure you say that the movie has you in awe.

- But I love it. Compared with so many films that are now so sophisticated, with which one can not identify ... This is a simple story with flesh and blood, and explains well what happens to them. It gives us a lesson. No great things happen, but the passing is very well told.

The Town

- Your character, Luisa, struggles to find her place, is that what happened to you?

- Yes. Most girls know that feeling. There is something that keeps you from being still in the same place. You have the need to discover. I am also from a town. It’s called Montgat, in Barcelona. Up to an age, you don’t know why, but you need to get out and move on. You get to a place and you do not like it. You go on experimenting. It is the only way to know if you are right where you should be. I left Montgat when I was even younger than Luisa.

- At what age?

- At 18. I went to Barcelona to do theater. And then I came to Madrid to work on 'Al salir de clase'.

- At 10 years old, you went on 'El largo invierno del 39'. Did you see yourself clearly to be an actress from the beginning?

- It's very difficult to decide to be an actor at that age. These are things that one must decide when you are older. At that age, everything was subconscious, then it was a thought. I have no regrets.

- Do you live well be an actor?

- If things go well and one has a job, it is fun. I love actors. They have taught me a lot and to be with them in the waiting or during the rehearsal is a joy. I live very well.

- Did you do supper on 'Al salir de clase'?

- It has ever happened to us, but never got to do. It would be a little rare, right? I talked with a partner, but then, you know ...

- You want to make more movies.

- Sure. The movies are gifts that appear. I love films. But a film never secures the future and one has to work. This profession is like that. I have my feet on the ground and I will not leave the TV.

- After seeing you in 'El prado de las estrellas' do you expect them to call you more?

- I did not think so. Watching the film I was surprised that my character was more important than I had imagined. But the experience has taught me to enjoy what I do and not to get my hopes high. I get noticed at work, I enjoyed what I could and that's it.

- Do you ever refuse a role?

- I see that nothing is impossible. Not be saturated nor be at standstill. That's all I know about this work.

- What do you do when you lack routine?

- I'd rather be working, even on TV.

EL PRADO DE LAS ESTRELLAS

New with Mario Camus is a story about ordinary people with everyday problems. Álvaro de Luna, Marian Aguilera are the protagonists.

THE STORY: A retired man (Alvaro de Luna) and women (Mari Gonzales) who took care of the young. A social worker (Marian Aguilera), and a boy (Oscar Abad) who aspires to succeed in the world of cycling. They all cross paths in their lives in the idyllic surroundings of Cantabria.

Everyday stories

This film tells the story of people who have their little problems. And the dreams of a very young little boy begin to ride a bike. Although it seems lik a very simple story, it is quite complicated. One of the revelations of the film, including Goya nomination, is the rider Óscar Abad is in Almacenes Lavin team.

"The Cafe of Marian Aguilera": interview with La Vanguardia (2007)

In 2007, Marian Aguilera was featured in the magazine La Vanguardia, talking about her favourite coffee shop.

Official website: lavanguardia.es

*Click on images for original size.

(1) With El prado de las estrellas/The meadow of stars, the latest film by Camus which was just released, and her activity in soap operas, she has become a well-known face. Though her red hair is becoming familiar, it does not prevent enjoyment of the shelter of an ancient, anonymous local spot.

The Café of Marian Aguilera

The sight on an afternoon with coffee tables full of lonely people who read, write or speak on the phone is an image that portrays the spread comfort and local as a family-friendly space. Almost intimate. The Café de Manuela, on Calle San Vicente Ferrer's very cañí and juvenile Malasaña, it's all for the actress Marian Aguilera. Just exceeded thirty, the Barcelonian, who began her career with small theatrical roles and a brief appearance in El largo invierno/The Long Winter (1992), the one title that took Jaime Camino to Berlin, has spent ten years in Madrid; from 1997 she played Miriam in the famous pool of actors called Al salir de clase (1997-2002). For the past two years she has own an apartment in Malasaña. And Manuela has become a refuge, a place of encounter and intimacy attached to the home. Low afternoon with a coffee or a juice wrapped in one of the sofas that surround the establishment of dilapidated air and noble history linked to the move and other furies of Madrid. The Manuela is two years younger than Marian, but it dominates with its columns and Charleston coffee chairs as a nineteenth-century vintage.

At home there is poor coverage, so when calls are accumulated, it is a good time to get off to spend time in the Manuela. Perhaps next to the piano, buried under a mountain of games, with their playful invitation, underline the cordial and friendly character of the premises. Marian uses it as an extension of her apartment. She prefers an appointment with his friends there, even to confide in her friends. Zero view of the traffic, now that she has decided to pull out her card. Better than at home. There is always good music - stresses coziness - but remains in the background, without requiring to speak up or confuse the customer.

REGlSTRADORA/CASH REGISTER
It is in use. Perhaps as old as the café, but there’s no proof. They bought it at an old drugstore.

COFFEE MAKER WITH A HISTORY
It is about 90 years old. The coffee maker had served another location in Madrid and had been made in the same city by Francisco Carrera, in a workshop at the Green Cross Street 12, as contained in its own nameplate. Unfortunately, it does not work.

ALL GAMES
The variety of games on the shelves and even the ledge of the piano have been a witness in the local Antigua and acclaimed activities of the café.

(2) A PLACE TO DISCONNECT
No hunting autographs and fans that interrupt, and Marian, Silvia Castro in Los hombres de paco /Paco’s Men and Louise in El prado de las estrellas/The meadow of stars, goes to warn inattentive eyes, betrayed only by the brilliance of her red, Viking hair.

(3) THE CAFÉ OF MARIAN AGUILERA
The Café de Manuela in the Malasaña district has become a safe refuge for actress Marian Aguilera.
