Válido para un baile was recorded in full in an interior Malaga (the hall of the Old Conservatorio María Cristina Unicaja; access to the permit as requested by the team of Gaby Beneroso) and featured Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, María Valverde, Antonio Dechent, Marian Aguilera, Alfonsa Rosso y Alex O'Dogherty. The new project director debuted in 2004 in the feature film Las huellas que devuelve el mar.

His fourth short film will take the viewer to 1937. The story is set in an old ballroom in a city where the miseries of each of its clients and the resignation of the dancers are displayed by this last refuge as the steps to the beat of the music.

According to the filmmaker, who also wrote the screenplay, it is to recreate a social phenomenon characteristic of Spain at the times, when men paid to dance with a dancer. But Válido para un baile is mostly about personal relationships that makes the characters, showing the eagerness of the human being, their capacity to adjust to a hostile environment and to overcome any difficulty. The Civil War conflict is sensed and, although not openly mentioned, it places the characters in an atmosphere of extreme tension.

ARGUMENT - INTENT OF THE DIRECTOR

“Válido por un baile” is the title of a short film project which aims to recreate a social phenomenon typical of Spain in the late 30's, ballrooms where men paid to dance with a companion in exchange for coins.

The story affects, above all, personal relationships that take place between the characters, trying to demonstrate the eagerness of the human being, their ability to adjust to a hostile environment and to overcome any devastating difficulty.

This story is set in the Spanish Civil War, but there is no mention openly about the conflict in any of the dialogues. Audience is given only hints of the concern itself in a war situation. Gaby uses this historical fact to place the characters in an extreme environment, which helps to unravel as they are in everyday reality social beings and timeless but, above all, hopeful.

The premiere was at 21.30 hours at Albéniz Málaga, Room 1.
