HOW DOES THIS TARTUFO COME TO YOUR HANDS AND WHAT MADE YOU TO SAY YES?
I called Ruben and said, 'Let's start rehearsing, it was a Friday, because on Monday, "Monday is a reading, what do you say?" And then I read the current version and I had other plans, but it was like ... I started thinking and I say no, but if I'm saying yes, I was not thinking about it and so on.

WHAT DOES THIS SPECIAL TARTUFO HAVE?
Jose is special. It's just that I've been missing this. I stayed with the director of the company and the director of the show and I don't know, there was something like that attracted me. And especially as the director, his vision, other works of him, I saw some videos. I do not know, I sounded like it was lighter. Because Moliere always saw it as ... even comedy, as heavy, even a classic text with so little time would have given me much more time. But as he put it to me and seeing the other works and see how he raised them, it was lighter because that, made me throw myself with less fear.

WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL LEAVE THE MOST IMPRESSION ON THE PUBLIC THAT SEE THE SHOW?
Uy ... I do not know ... I can not tell you from the inside. It is a very agile assembly. There is humor aside from the text. Jose is a person who has a great sense of humor. And he escapes, he can not help it. The same is marking and it comes to him. And it always has to do with humor. And that I think you may like.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST OF TESTS?
The best, the words say. It is an opportunity, also for the actors, to learn the script when it starts to come out, to pronounce the words. That is very beautiful.

SHALL WE TRUST IN SOMEONE WHO COMES TO DESTROY?
I think so. Blindly ... I do not know. Actually one has to be in very bad conditions to have a guide, but in that case there would already be a therapist, a professional, a doctor, ... But if one is moderately healthy, inventing for yourself a guide in life seems a bit strange. Mostly blindly. That is, we all have teachers, who do not have to be gurus or therapists. It can be your neighbor, your teacher, people you meet in life. Hence to rely blindly and to do so is to self-destruct. It is a little opposite to what heals us. Face difficulties and overcome them. You can ask for help, of course, but it is better be varied.

LIFE IS NOT A QUESTION OF GOOD AND BAD?
I do not think it's all black and white. But it is true that there are very good people and very bad people. But we are not all good or bad. There are people as more normal.

HOW DO YOU LIVE IN THE HOURS PRIOR TO THE PREMIERE?
I try to remember things where I always fail. In this case, prepare a little voice because I vocally do things that I am not used to.

AND THOSE TWO MINUTES BEFORE STARTING THE SCENE, WHAT THOUGHT CROSSES YOUR MIND?
Breathe. Breathe and look at the friends in the eyes.

WHAT IS THE MOST COMPLICATED AND THE BEST OF HAVING THE PUBLIC SO CLOSE?
In this room there is little public, so it's a relief. Just like the fifth feature, you miss a stadium. But right now, that's fine.

WHERE DOES THE MAGIC OF THEATER REMAIN?
That you never know. That is magic. On the worst day you have an idea and you can develop it on stage. The theater is a lot of work and a lot of nerves. Little sleep and much work. But if it is true that suddenly it gives you moments of magic that does not happen in life. And you never know when it's going to be. Nor where will that magic appear.

Stars as Elmira in "Tartufo, el impostor", the classic by Molière which is staged at the Fernán Gómez until Sunday [11 December 2016].

Written by Molière, "Tartufo" is a classic of universal dramatic literature. The figure of the hypocrite and the false devotee is so perfectly delineated that he has become a literary archetype. The company Venezia brings "Tartufo, the impostor" to the Fernán Gómez theater, where it will be until December 11 in this version by Pedro Víllora, directed by José Gómez-Friha. His intention is to transfer the story to the current times, in order to decipher those imposters that surround us. Marián Aguilera, versatile and consolidated actress in cinema, theater and television, is Elmira, the second woman of Orgón, victim of Tartufo.

Are you sure it was written in the seventeenth century? Because of its current situation ...

It is already known that the themes of the human personality come from way back. Surely from the first human group there would have been some Tartufos out there. Another thing is that circumstances occur that seem to be written in these times of corruption.

Could we define what a Tartufo is?

He is a selfish person, a liar who only look after himself. Someone who uses intelligence to manipulate others for their own benefit. A person who does not empathize with anyone, nor with pain, nor with grief, nor think of the damage it can cause. He only seeks his interest without being touched by anything or anyone.

Will there be people who feel identified?

Sometimes it happens to us in small things. People do not steal or keep anyone's belongings. We all have bad and regrettable things. I think that the honest and healthy is anyone with a certain maturity who looks at it a little, that it looks like a mirror. What happens here is exaggerated; it does not mean that the work highlights the tartufillo that we all carry inside.

It's more serious.

He speaks of a serious and dangerous personality. No one is free to be a little Tartufo at some point, but somewhat minimal, to another scale. We are not all Tartufos, they are very fat and it is with them that we have to be very careful.

The low passions appear.

The betrayal, ambition, voracity for money, revenge, robbery, double standards ... The years pass, but the human being don't change. These passions and baseness arise from very large complexes leading to harmful behavior. In most cases they come from upheavals and from the loss of the criterion of reality.

Where do the classics put the eye ...

They're classics because they're able to X-ray the human. As you work the characters, you discover the number of layers they have, they are a sample of the human soul.

Who is Elmira?

I play Orgón's second wife. Elmira is a woman with criteria, a character who from the beginning is solving problems and very painful things, the injustices that affect them. It's a role that goes a lot. What she wants is a normal life. Also, by reducing characters in this adaptation, I make scenes from others. I also interpret to the one who tells Orgón to open the eyes to see Tartufo, with him I discover the feelings of those who hate Tartufo.

Does the humor appear?

Humor is with us all the time, but we have not worked it to get the laugh. That was not the intention at any time or in any rehearsal, but then to put it on the scene we have taken the great surprise of its continuous presence.

Is it true that the colors of the dress have to do with the type of character?

If that is. There is red and blue costume. It was a decision of the director and costume to highlight those who are with Tartufo and those who are not. He says that red is the color of hell and uses it for his team, and the opposites, who know his dark background, wear blue.

What is the version of Pedro Víllora?

They worked hard and made changes; they did not want to do it just the same. They were attracted to talk about these types of people, and to create the personality of the character, they based it on the work «Los perversos narcisistas» by Jean-Charles Bouchoux. In addition, they have recovered the original ending of Molière, that was prohibited by the censorship and was suppressed. They have updated it with many winks to the current reality, to the contemporary. Those who know the usual text will surprise you.

Are the endings always happy?

Not in this case. With a happy ending people go away because they believe that the good always win and that's not the reality. Unfortunately, in the end, the bad guys have so many strategies and so much desire to annoy that most of the time they get away with it. So it seems to me, even better, because it brings you much more and makes you come out much more alert.

Is the theater something different?

It's not the medium that matters to me, it's the project. There are so many great things on television as well as bad things, just like in theater and in movies. More than the average, is that the factors that make it a precious project: script, direction, companions ..., but you never know. Good and bad products are in the three media.

The reader

Yes, I am a reader of the press and more and more by Internet. I used to read more on paper, but now I alternate directly. For me it is a necessity, I like to look at everything; some things carefully and some more than average, but I am interested in everything. It seems that the Sunday morning times with the newspaper on the table are over. Now you take advantage of any time, on public transport from here to there, to read with the mobile. This way we are much more informed. As the thing is now more squeaky I look more at politics, but what I always go to is the pages of Culture, which is where one learns.

---------------

Marian Aguilera work: Tartufo, el impostor

I have met many 'tartufillos' in my life.

Q: Pedro Víllora says that the audience of this work is not going to enter a museum but is going to find himself. How current is this work after three more centuries?

A: I'm surprised you ask me, everyone knows what's going on. Yes, of course it is current. I also imagine that it would be one of the reasons why he chose this work and not another, because yes, indeed, it is very current unfortunately.

Q: Why, what is it facing us?

A: Not only hypocrisy, but also a person who displaces anything other than their own interests, immoral and unscrupulous to grab their prize. It is the only interest.

Q: Why do you think that "Tartufo" is one of the top works of universal dramatic literature?

A: Years have passed and they are again an example. Any audience who goes to see it discovered, identified and empathized with the characters and they are human stories, and the human profile is very well written. And for that it is necessary to write with a depth that almost all the classics still have, because it is an X-ray of the human soul. For example where they interact and one feels identified in one situation or another because they are very well written those human profiles, those heads, those human souls.

Q: We all know the universal history of Tartufo. What makes this version adapted by Pedro Víllora and produced by Venezia Theater different?

A: It is a version, but always respecting almost all the text and the essence. There is something that is much stronger, which is what Molière wrote, as an input translation. There is some variation, minimal, but yes as for characters, there is less than the original, but it is all told, every word, every action and every feeling and thought of the original is in this. It is not that he invented another and used the Tartufo to put his things. He's  always respecting the essence of the original. It is not an invention or any madness.

Q: Tell us about your character, how is Elmira?

Elmira is the second woman of Orgón, she was a widower, we met after the death of his first wife. She has children, in this one she appears only with a daughter, who is the one that interests me and for whom she fights, that despite not being my daughter I love her like a friend. Looking a little Tartufo's intentions at a given moment and seeing clearly his modus operandi with the help of a maid who is smarter than he, we try to avoid a misfortune from taking place and from there things happen that in the end ends up winning Tartufo. Everyone knows how this story ends, it does not have a happy ending. Well, it depends on how you look, we are left without material goods but within my objectives, which are to keep this family, open their eyes. I get what I want, because I'm not with Orgón for money ...

Q: Who would be the 'Tartufos' of today? Have you come across any?

We see them every day in the press and then beyond those who dedicate themselves to politics, that these are as clear, this Tartufo, the one of Molière, they invented things that belongs to a religion and tells us that they are better than others, and with this trap they catch naive poor people who spend a moment of weakness or clinging to religions, sects, what we already know, blind them and many times to get money.

I have found many 'tartufillos' in my life (laughs), but I am not a fanatic person, for example in the cultural, musical aspect ... yes, I have my fanaticism, but then I have never been the typical devotee, I catch things with enthusiasm, I get hooked, but I belong to groups and that .. I have always gone very much to my roll. I have been lucky not to fall into the clutches of a network of 'tartufismo'.

Q: A devastating phrase of this text ...

There are many, and I loose many pearls. "Authentic people do not boast, they do not make unbearable display of their greatness, they are criticized at every moment the acts of others and in any case with their silent acts they discover an example to follow." And then I add: "That's my people".

Q: Apart from the Plaza de Colón, in the Fernán Gómez, where else are we going to be able to see them soon?

Nothing that can be counted (laughter) and nothing that can distract me, because this has its difficulty. I do not know if he would be able to match it with anything else now.
