Why say mucha mierda (a lot of shit)?

One theory says that in Argentina and Spain, actors, musicians and entertainers wanting to say ‘good luck’ before going on stage say: "A lot of shit." It probably comes from the custom in France to pronounce "merde" as a sign of success. This is part of a "cábala" superstitious -- it is considered bad luck wish "Good luck!"
